Getting more out of your camera

Getting more out of your camera

Exposure

Natural

High exposure

Low exposure

The exposure is when light is collected by the sensor in the camera. The exposure symbol on the camera is usually shown like this +/-. The first photo I took is when the exposure was natural. The second one is when I turned the exposure up to its highest point making the photo come out brighter. Finally the last photo is when the exposure is down to its lowest point. From the photos I took I think that exposure helps the image look for effective and also gives of a different mood in each photo.

Flash

With flash on a reflected surface

Without flash on a reflected surface

 Flash on a persons face

Flash not on a persons face

Flash is used to create artificial light. Using exposure is considered better than using flash. Flash only has a short range of use and it doesn't work on reflected surfaces as it just creates a big flash of light. As you can see from the first photo, the majority of the photo is just a big flash of light and without flash on you can see more clearly what's happening in the photo. The  third photo is when flash is on and it just makes the face of the person brighter, while with no flash on it makes there face look more natural. With flash I think it is only useful if your using it in a dark place e.g a party. Other than that I think Flash can ruin a photo.

 White Balance.

White Balance in the sun mode

White Balance in its  bulb mode

White Balance in a cloud mode

White Balance is when you remove unrealistic colour. As you can see from the first photo You can see that the colours seem natural and a bit brighter  when I put the white balance in the sun mode. The second photo I put in the bulb mode which gave it a blue tint. For the last photo I took I put the white balance in the cloud mode, which gave it more of a gloomy day feeling. Out of the modes I like the bulb one the best as I like how it gives of a light blue tone to the image.

ISO

ISO depends on how much light you need to take a good photo.  If you have a lots of light being given off than a lower ISO is fine to use but, if you don't have little light then you should use a higher ISO. With a lower ISO its doesn't make a picture look blurry e.g ISO of 100, but if you have a high ISO the chances are that the photo will come out blurry e.g ISO of 800. The first to photos I took don't show a lot of difference, but the first one I took was with an ISO of 100 then the second one with a ISO of 800. I took these photos in a light place, which is why I think much difference didn't appear. The two last photos I took where in a dark place and as you can see there is much difference between them. The first image I took was with the ISO of 100 and you can see the objects clearly, but as for the second one the objects are more blurred out as I used the ISO of 800.  What I noticed is that in the first image, you can faintly see string across the left hand side and in the second image it becomes more clear. I this function can damage the the photos you take depending on how high or low you put the ISO and also the surroundings that your in.

AF mode

Af mean Auto focus which is when it focuses on one part of your image. When I used this effect on my object I didn't really see a difference being made so personally I dont see this effect having much use.

Burst

Burst mode lets lots of photographs to be captured in a rapid rate. This is done by holding down the shutter button. Burst mode can be used in things that include fast motion. I think with the photos I took they didn't come out that bad, but some are quite blurry. Also when using burst mode on a person I think it shows there facial expression more clearly as your capturing it more quickly.

Culture day photo story

The starting point for the day. Waiting for the rest of the group to arrive.

Waiting for the train at stratford

Arriving at London bridge underground station, where it had cool twisting stairs. The white balance for the picture on the right was turned down.

The clink

  The entrance of the clink.

Hanging skeleton.
The White balance was turned down to its lowest  point
In the clink we got a tour around the prison where we learnt about the history of torture. It was very interesting.

This image here is of a man who was chucked into a hole and was left to die.
Sort of close up image of the chain and in the background
there was a man(dummy), showing how they chained up  the
prisoners.
These pictures here are the old version of handcuffs. They used to melt
the two ends together, so that the prisoners were unable to escape.
Four headless men
Four headless men at a diagonal angle
A close up of the one of the headless man face
This image here is a man being chained up. I really like the image as I think the lighting
gives of a dangerous and painful feeling.

After leaving the clink, we wondered around the area we were in a and came across
a pirate ship.

This  here is an balancing elements image. Out of all the photos I took
this one is might favourite, because I like how you can see the city in the background and how the metal bar is leading towards it.
This image here was took outside a pub. With this image there are faint colours in the sky.
In this photo there is some symmetry going on with the two
towers on the bridge. But once again I like this photo as London is in the background.
Another balancing elements photo, this time with an ash tray.
A diagonal image of the torch outside the London Dungeons.
The London Dungeons. Unfortunately we were not allowed to take photos during the tour of the dungeons.
As I was leaving the train station, I took the symmetrical photo.

corporate video analysis

Good and bad corporate/promotional videos

A corporate video=A corporate video is used to promote a company and what it does.

Promotional video= A promotional video is used to promote a certain product or service e.g a charity.

The difference between a corporate and a promotional video is that a corporate video is telling the audience something they already know but informing them more of what the company is about. A promotional video is where its promotes a certain product or they help promote events and awareness of a cause e.g. a charity about cancer.

A good corporate video

What good about this video is that it tells the audience what its about and it includes interviews and a voice over to get what there promoting more across. In the video the interviews are coming from different people who work in different company's, this is good because it shows how many different company's are involved and what there doing. Also this video doesn't include a lot of information, which makes it easier to understand what the video is about and also so that it doesn't bore the audience. Also in the video the some of the shots match what the voice-over is saying and I think it gives the video more effect.

A bad corporate video

At the start of the video its quite slow and you don't really understand whats happening but, the music playing does give it a dramatic feeling.Even though this video includes quite a lot of interactions, I think it looses the point of what its actually supposed to be promoting, as it talks about different things such as on one slide its on about exhibitions expos and fairs(1:06) then the next slide its on about conducting a successful event (1:13). I think this video has to much going on which can make its audience confused and loose interest.

Photography composition

Portrait and landscape

When taking a landscape photo you must turn your camera at a horizontal angle as you can capture the scenery more. My landscape photos keep to the rule as it captures the surroundings.

The rule for when taking a portrait photo is to have the whole body of the person shown in the photo or an object e.g a tower. I applied the rule as the photos I took show the whole of there body and not different areas of there body e.g. there waste to shoulders.

Rule of thirds
With the photo I took you can clearly see that I applied the rule of thirds to the photo. When taking a picture of an landscape the horizon line should be two-thirds up from the bottom. As for one of my photos the sky is the main focus point as it is two-thirds up on the photo.

The rule of thirds when taking a picture of a person, is that there eye level must be two-thirds up the frame.  As you can see from my photo it keeps to the rule as her eyes are at the correct level.
Diagonal rule

Diagonal pictures are considered more interesting than just horizontal photos. The rule for taking a diagonal photo is tilting the  camera at an angle. The photo of the stairs I think came out quite well as personally I think it gives of a illusion feeling.
symmetry

Symmetry photos can be very eye-catching and include interesting compositions. Also what makes them more eye-catching if there is something unexpected in the photo. From the photo I took both of the doors a quite identical and I think for next time when I take a symmetrical photo I will include an random object.
Balancing elements
The rule for this photo is that you put your main image slightly of centre, which then creates a more interesting  photo. You balance the weight of the photo by including an other image which has less importance. I kept to this rule by making the hat the main focus of the photo, also with the buildings being slightly faded it puts more of a impact on the hat.
