Continuity Editing Exercise
What scenario were you asked to work to?
The scenario was called " The Encounter" which was where a character opens a door and then goes to sit down where he/she trades dialogue with another character.
What were the key media language skills you were to demonstrate?
The key media language skills that I was to demonstrate was to be able to use a camera and apply the correct techniques on how to film a shot e.g if it was a high angle shot I would have to make the tri-pod longer and then position it, also doing the 180 degree shot which is when the view of the camera is on one side of 2 people. Also another skill that I had to demonstrate was to be able to edit the clips that I had filmed.
Who did you work with to plan the film?
For the planning and filming I worked with fellow classmates.
How successful was this grouping?
I think the grouping was quite successful as we all know each other quite well, so we knew what each of us was capable of.
How did you use your creativity to develop the scenario?
With this scenario at first we had a different approach to it as in where we all would wear moustaches and interrogate a member from our group, but then we changed this idea as it seemed like it wouldn't make sense. So in the end we kept it to a good cop, bad cop interrogation situation.
How useful was your storyboard? What did you change and what did you stick to?
Our storyboard helped us quite a lot, as it guided us through what shots we had to and how we were supposed to do each shot e.g close up. At first we had a whole different idea, but I think that the first
storyboard we did, we didn't think through enough and didn't have a variety of shot angles etc. But, with our second storyboard it made more sense of what we were filming and we included a lot more shot types and angles.
